Gift Policy

University of Nebraska Libraries:

Books & Materials Donations

University of Nebraska Libraries does not accept most book or materials donations from personal or departmental libraries. This policy is due to increasing space constraints and the high cost of sorting, reviewing, and processing donated materials.

Library Staff Cannot Appraise Your Collection

Professional standards, university policy, and IRS regulations prohibit library staff from making monetary appraisals or estimates of value.

Other Places to Donate Books & Other Materials

We encourage you to please consider one of these other options for passing along your material:

Archives & Special Collections:

Donate rare or unique books, unpublished materials, and personal papers

Archives & Special Collections serves as the repository for rare or unique books, unpublished materials, and personal papers, as well as the permanent records of the university. Consider donating these types of materials to Archives & Special Collections. Materials representing diverse perspectives and stories are especially welcome.
